The Faculty of Construction and Environment invites secondary school students to participate in the "Build a Smart City Competition 2025". This exciting opportunity encourages students to develop innovative solutions for transforming Hong Kong into a Smart City through workshops, demonstrations, lab visits, and discussions with esteemed researchers and members from our four departments, deepening your understanding of Smart City concepts while contributing to meaningful solutions. Don’t miss your chance to be part of this transformative experience! This competition comprises two parts: Part I: 2-day Workshop (28 Jun & 5 July 2025) All participants will engage in a 2-day workshop, immersing yourselves in a journey to explore the Smart City concepts. During this workshop, participants will be grouped according to the assigned projects, where you will participate in targeted sessions organised on the assigned project.  Part II: Presentation Day (22 August 2025) Following the workshop, participating teams will be given approximately 7 weeks to develop your projects. This phase will encourage teams to innovate and collaborate effectively. The presentation day will be held on 22 August 2025. Participants will have the freedom to choose the preferred presentation format.

The main purpose of this course is to provide the participants with the fundamental principles, skills and guidelines needed to carry out effective energy audits in accordance with the Buildings Energy Efficiency Ordinance. After taking the course, the participants would appreciate the approach to identify energy saving measures and perform quantitative analysis to predict the energy savings, environmental and economic benefits. Moreover, the participants should be able to measure and verify the performance of implemented energy saving measures.

The course will include a mixture of tutor led training, group discussion and delegate activities and will be assessed through a 2.5-hour online examination. Training will focus on the application of the greenhouse gas accounting and reporting guide developed by the Hong Kong SAR Government and will also cover practical carbon auditing skills.  Delegates will gain practical experience of GHG emission accounting and reporting calculations by completing a range of exercises and a case study Hong Kong office building. Participants will require MS Excel for the course case study exercise and also a laptop for the assessment. 

The course is designed for CPD, especially for members of CIE(HK), and also for HKIE – BS Div, CIBSE HK Region, & Energy Institute HK, all of which are the supporting organizations to the courses, and member rate can be applied to their members. 

ACRA, CIBSE-HKR and HKAEE are jointly organizing a technical visit from 26 to 29 April 2025 for 4 days to Shanghai PRC. In this occasion, our visiting team will visit the China Refrigeration Expo 2025 (CR2025) (中國制冷展 2025) and HVAC product factories which are in liaison for confirmation. China Refrigeration today has developed to become an exhibition for international HVAC&R market, which attracts not only local but also overseas exhibitors and participants from more than 30 countries and regions. This is an opportunity for the members to explore the technical exchange and development of the technology, product standards and market trend of the industry. The maximum number of participants is 30 and application will be accepted on a first-come-first- serve basis.
