The main purpose of this course is to provide the participants with the fundamental principles, skills and guidelines needed to carry out effective energy audits in accordance with the Buildings Energy Efficiency Ordinance. After taking the course, the participants would appreciate the approach to identify energy saving measures and perform quantitative analysis to predict the energy savings, environmental and economic benefits. Moreover, the participants should be able to measure and verify the performance of implemented energy saving measures.

To facilitate experience sharing and to promote development on building services engineering between the Mainland and Hong Kong SAR, CIBSE-HKB, HKIE-BSD, and ASHRAE-HKC have jointly organized symposiums in Beijing, Shanghai, Heilongjiang, Anhui, Changsha, Liaoning, Fujian, Tianjin, Xi’an, Chongqing, Qingdao, Shenyang, Wuhan, Chengdu, Taiyuan over the past years.  This year, three institutions jointly organized the event with the Department of Building Environment and Energy Engineering from the Polytechnic University of Hong Kong two-day symposium with professional bodies in Kunming, Yunnan Province, China (云南省昆明市) on 1 & 2 July 2024. The theme of the symposium is “Towards Carbon Neutrality".

Research Engineering Development Façade Consultants Limited (RED) was founded in 1996 and was the first laboratory in Hong Kong dedicated to independent quality assurance and testing services for curtain wall and fire resistance systems as well as fire proofing materials in building construction. For over twenty years, RED has provided specialist third-party consulting and testing services to architects, developers and manufacturers across a wide portfolio. RED are among the foremost consultants in the region for full scale curtain wall and fire resistance testings and it is accredited under HOKLAS as a fire and facade testing laboratory since 1997.  In 2014, RED was inducted as an associate member of the European Group of Organizations for Fire Testing, Inspection and Certification (EGOLF) and is the first fire testing laboratory which is credited as an associate member of EGOLF in the Far East Asia Region. Since it was established in 1988, EGOLF has contributed widely to both improving the level of personal fire safety and minimizing the losses and damage caused by fire in the environment through the quality service among its members. With few national fire groups in Asia concerning the development of harmonized test methods or standardizing testing quality, RED believes that EGOLF provides a platform for laboratories in the region to improve their quality of service and to promote research and development in fire testing. In this visit, RED will present the essentials of fire tests, with a demo fire test on a glazed system.

This conference provides the latest information of advanced innovative technologies in water engineering related to HVAC, water use and management as well as sustainability.  Engineers with the abovementioned expertise will share their best knowledges with the aims of achieving carbon neutrality.
